Colin Styles, Cosgrove, Milton Keynes Builder

We have used builder operating under name of “Colin Styles / Colin Raymond Styles” as sole trader from Cosgrove, Milton Keynes and also limited company called “MALT HOUSE, THE STOCKS MANAGEMENT COMPANY LTD (12463905)”.
We could not find any reference to builder on internet at all – Good or Bad. This seems very strange for builder who has worked for last 30 years (as he told us).

So we decided to put our experience on internet as builder is not registered with any body or site or any form on internet. Since builder is not listed on any site at all (which should have made us suspicious in first place) on internet so had to do this blog.

Our experience has nightmare to start with. But to be honest whatever work he got done by subcontractor was good but whatever he did him (part of roofing), floor works, ground works, plastering was below standard and not according to building regs

Two biggest issues we had with builders:

Financial dealing (always tried and also took money for works he did not carried)

Total disregard for building regs (approved), he carried out works according to his ways (20 years old), does not understand new building regulation or on purpose ignored to cut cost. Contract cost was based on approved building regs.

Other issues at high level:

All existing roofs leaked which he replaced

All Floor levels are wrong (we have to redo them)

Did not fit cavity closure for windows (bread and butter for any normal builder with couple of years of experience)

Cavity walls below DPC were not filled (as specified in building regs)

Windows opening were wrong sizes and locationNo fireline plaster board as building regs required

I would not go into invoicing process as he moved cost around – it was most stressfull experience.

This was our experience, so if ever decide to work with builder. We would not recommend the builder but If you decide to go ahead don’t have any communication verbally but every word written!

A little something for festive period!

Removing what’s not David – Thought nugget!

LAYWi

A Thought

Michelangelo was asked by the pope about the secret of his genius, particularly how he carved the statue of David, largely considered the masterpiece of all masterpieces. His answer was: “It’s simple. I just remove everything that is not David.” *

So how often have you looked to improve life both ways:

  • Relinquishing  of bad or unhelpful habits
  • Acquiring new habits which are aligned to your purpose of life

Mostly we have seen, we always try to acquire new habits without getting rid of baggage – old habits which hold us back. Its the inertia which holds us back and hamper in acquiring momentum in forward direction.

Action

  • Make list of your habits **
  • Prioritize on there importance of impact and relevancy to life / bigger picture.
  • SWOT your habits and see for yourself where you are with each of them
  • Then start with goal(s) of relinquishing the…

  • A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What a man can be, he must be.
  • Life is an ongoing process of choosing between safety (out of fear and need for defense) and risk (for the sake of progress and growth). Make the growth choice a dozen times a day.
